YDL Helping Hand

YDL Lends a Helping Hand

This past year hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing for logistics. COVID-19 and issues in the Suez have affected many depots across the country. But, we’ve come out the other side stronger here at YDL with little impact on the day-to-day logistics needs of our customers. As we continue to grow, we know how important it is to support local businesses – especially in our industry.

Learn more about what YDL is doing to help here.

Nationwide Express Parcels

YDL works closely with multiple depots and logistic companies as a part of The Pallet Network. This collaborative network of British logistic providers allows the UK logistics industry as a whole to benefit from each other’s strength and provide fast, competitive logistics on a local level.

One member of TPN, Nationwide Express Parcels (NEP), was hit by a sudden spike in work in their region of Glossop. Such a rapid increase was unexpected, even as we come out of this pandemic.

YDL MD Paul McLaren quickly realised NEP would not have the resources to deal with their growing backlog single-handedly. Therefore, it was time to get a team together. YDL enlisted the help of fellow TPN members LPC and McDowell Haulage and Distribution to form a compliment of 11 vehicles and drivers.

On an early Saturday morning, the fleet assembled at NEP depot to begin assistance. It quickly became apparent that the team offered to NEP incredible efficiency, meaning only three drivers would be needed that Saturday. As the rest stood down, it was clear YDL had lived up to the TPN Partner Powered Alliance Mantra.

One Team, TPN!

York Against Cancer

New Truck Day is often widely celebrated at YDL. A shiny new symbol of our continued support for UK logistics is worth cheering about after all. This time, however, it felt even sweeter. YDL prides itself on supporting the local community in York. We’re always looking to give back wherever and however we can.

Next time you see one of our trucks heading out from the depot or into your business,  keep your eyes peeled for a new logo on the cab. Our new truck proudly displays the logo of local charity ‘York Against Cancer.’ We hope to spread awareness of the team’s great work across York and the UK at large. According to studies, during the first few months of the COVID-19 pandemic, almost 45% of those with cancer symptoms were unable to see a GP. So let’s set that right however we can.

Our excellent connections through the TPN network allow us to offer unique logistics opportunities to UK businesses – including overnight and same-day delivery. Via this or through awareness, YDL is here to help. Learn more about our services and stay updated on our social channels to make sure you never miss a thing.

Top Logistics Lessons 2021

Why You Need Professional Logistics For 2021

2020 was certainly a tumultuous year, filled with surprises and incredible changes that have no doubt led your business down a very different path than the one you began upon in January. If 2020 has taught UK business anything, it’s the importance of logistics to stay afloat. There’s no doubt an unprecedented amount of businesses that will have locked down for good, so to speak, without an eCommerce platform and delivery service. As the very last Christmas presents find their way to their new homes, and we prepare for the finale of this year of twists and turns, let’s recap the lessons 2020 has taught us and how a professional logistics team like YDL can make 2021 just that much easier for your business.

1.      Logistical Needs Can Change At A Moment’s Notice

From supply shortages to increased delivery demand, every aspect of the logistical chain can change at a moment’s notice. This is true regardless of current events, but a global pandemic has indeed highlighted this unavoidable truth for businesses across the UK. Your logistical needs will change, and you need a delivery partner ready to adapt with them. As lockdowns continue into early next year, thankfully with a vaccine in sight, trust our vast array of shipping options here at YDL. For top-quality shipping, including Hazchem and pallet shipping, contact us today.

2.      Current Events Impact Logistics

Obvious, but vital to remember. Your business might be dealing with agriculture, but the current medical crisis will affect it. You need to be prepared as a business to stay in tune with the world around you to ensure you can continue to operate efficiently and effectively no matter what changes 2021 will bring. For example, the possibility of a no-deal Brexit leaves future trade and shipping between the UK and the EU in a serious state of uncertainty. Allow logistics experts to handle the headaches, so you can continue to deliver to your customers the best products around.

3.      Customers Demand Quality Logistics

Next-Day, Same-day, Yesterday, customers want their items as soon as possible. COVID has shown us that the seller that can get items out the quickest will always prevail. Just look at the fiasco around the PS5 and Series X launch. Passionate customers are willing to pay thousands on top of the retail price to third-party sellers due to a lack of stock. Shipping complications in this eCommerce-dominated world will cost you countless sales. Every out-of-stock item, week-plus delivery time can irrevocably damage your customers’ loyalty. Ensure you can meet the demand with our YDL delivery options designed to ensure your products are reaching customers in a timeframe and budget your business needs.

Why you need a reliable logistics company

Why you need a reliable logistics company

The current COVID-19 crisis has created a range of unprecedented challenges for the retail industry. It has affected every aspect of the supply chain, from the sourcing of materials and production of goods through to the point of the sale, and this, of course, includes the logistics and transport chain.

More and more people have turned to online shopping. It is thought that it has surged by as much as 129% during the height of the pandemic. This has meant that more than ever, businesses need to have a reliable logistics company working with them.

However, even before the worry of Coronavirus consumed the world, there was a need for a reliable logistics company, and once this has passed, there will still be a need for them.

But why do you need a reliable logistics company, like YDL?

It helps you to maintain an advantage over your competitors

It is a rewarding feeling to know that your customers will always receive your products on time and in good condition. You will be able to monitor the progress of your products as they are delivered to the recipient.

However, the assurance that you are a step ahead of your competition in the industry is even more satisfying. That is precisely what a capable logistics company is doing. It puts you a step forward and enables you to maintain a competitive edge.

It helps to prevent loss

If your company is dealing with spoilage problems, losses, and theft of stock, it is highly likely that you do not have a reliable logistics service in place.

A reliable logistics company, such as YDL guarantees that the shipment will be handled with care and delivered in good condition and on time. It is what your logistics company does – if they don’t, you need to call us, pronto.

It gives your customers a great experience

Reliability and reputation are critical for a company, and the logistics service that you use will play a bit part in that. Your customers want their goods delivered quickly and safely. If you can give them that, they will come back time and time again. They do not your logistics plan – they don’t care. They just want an excellent experience from beginning to end, within the stipulated time frame.

It can help you to grow your business

All businesses strive to expand and scale-up, irrespective of its current size. Being able to grow your company indicates that you are doing the right thing in your sector. However, if you are trying to juggle too many plates, including organizing your own transport and shipping, trying to focus on growth might be one thing too many to deal with. When you take logistics out of the equation, knowing they are being handled by a reliable company such as YDL, you have more time and energy to look at what your business is doing well, and what you need to put into place to support an expansion.
